What is a Juice Cleanse?

Frequently Asked Questions regarding our raw, organic cold pressed juice cleanse

Q: WHAT DOES COLD-PRESSED JUICE MEAN?

Cold Pressing is the process of extracting nutrient rich juice from fresh produce using high pressure exerted through a Hydraulic Press. This hydraulic cold-pressed method provides a minimum mixing of air with the juices resulting in very slow oxidation or decomposition of the juice. Our Cold Press method gently and completely extracts the natural fruit sugars, vitamins, trace minerals, enzymes, and other vital elements. Cold Pressed juice is the only method of juicing that enables juice to be bottled (without preservatives) and still maintain a 4 day shelf life with little loss of taste, nutrients, or color.

Q: HOW DOES MOTHER’S JUICE DIFFER FROM THE JUICE I BUY AT THE SUPERMARKET OR MAKE AT HOME?

Juices sold at supermarkets convenience stores and such are all treated to maintain a longer shelf life. This is accomplished by adding preservatives as well as pasteurizing their products. Mother’s Cold-Pressed Juices are 100% raw and unpasteurized, without additives or preservatives.

Juices made at home or even most juice bars (including Mother’s) are typically made in centrifugal juicers which is a significantly faster process, but is meant for immediate consumption. As the blade inside a centrifugal juicer spins at a high speed, it generates heat. The heat oxidizes and separates nutrients naturally found in the whole fruits and vegetables, rendering those nutrients that make it into the juice less pure. Juice made at home or consumed at our Cafe must be consumed within a few hours for optimal nutritional value.

Q: WHAT IS PASTEURIZATION AND WHY ISN’T MOTHER’S JUICE PASTEURIZED?

Pasteurization is a process by which juice is heated to a specific temperature for a specific amount of time in order to kill potentially harmful bacteria. About 99% of all juices sold in America are pasteurized, namely because it prolongs the shelf life of juice and is more cost-effective than not pasteurizing. Unfortunately, pasteurization also kills the vital raw vitamins, minerals and enzymes, rendering most juice nutritionally deficient. Mother’s Juice promotes the consumption of raw living fruits and vegetables and therefore chooses to offer our bottled Cold-Pressed juices as well as our freshly prepared in-store juices both of which are raw and unpasteurized for optimal nutritional benefits.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR PRODUCE?

We work closely with local farmers and suppliers for all our fruits and veggies. Our farmers and suppliers follow strict guidelines when it comes to avoiding synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. No GMOs, chemical additives are used in their practices. However, it is likely that due to extreme weather conditions, certain produce can be very hard to source from them; for example, spinach, mint and parsley is hard for our farmers to grow under extreme climate and in those occasions, it will be necessary to source them from other mainstream suppliers. We will keep you informed when shortage of produce or seasons might force us to change a recipe or look for other suppliers and farmers.

Q: WHY IS JUICE SO EXPENSIVE?

Not all juice is created equal. The average Mother’s 16 oz beverage uses 1.5 to 2.5 lbs of fruits and vegetables to create. As mentioned above, our produce is all sourced from local and regional farmers that follow strict, regulated guidelines. No GMOs, pesticides, additives or irradiation is used to grow them, so you are consuming the best quality fruit and greens in each bottle of Mother’s Juice. Additionally, the process of Cold-Pressing requires more involvement. When you consider what you’re consuming everyday during a 3 Day CLEANSE, approximately 14 lbs of freshly pressed fruits and vegetables, and the process involved, it’s actually quite inexpensive! No mess, no prep, no fuss.

Q: WHY DOES THIS JUICE LOOK DIFFERENT FROM WHEN I LAST PURCHASED IT?

Our juices are handcrafted, so at times variations may occur, such as:

  • Settling or Separation: Mother’s has no additives, and only additives can prevent the natural settling process. Before drinking, be sure to give your juice a good shake! That’s all!
  • White Specs: Juices that contain ginger may have white specks in the bottom of the juice bottle. Not to worry! These white specks are ginger sediment, which naturally settle to the bottom of the bottle.
  • Color Variation: Many of our juices mixed with apples and/or pears may vary in color, from gold to yellow-green to pink to brown. Because Mother’s uses the freshest ingredients available to us at all times of the year, these items will vary in type (i.e Mutsu apples in Fall and Granny Smith apples in Winter)

Q: DO THE JUICE OFFERINGS CHANGE WITH THE SEASONS?

All produce is affected by weather fluctuation so certain fruits and vegetables are only available during different times of the year. Occasionally, but very rarely, we encounter supply issues with some of our ingredients and we reserve the right to make appropriate substitutions or to reschedule a cleanse pick up to ensure optimal ingredients. We will always announce and notify our clients when certain produce will not be available.

Q: What if I change my mind?

Unfortunately, since each Cold Pressed Juice Cleanse is made to order, we cannot offer refunds for last minute cancellations or non-pickup. We are happy to issue store credit or change the cleanse pickup date. Store credit can be used at any Mother’s location. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support!

Q: CAN MY KIDS DRINK MOTHER’S JUICE?

Of course! We’ve designed the taste profiles so that kids love the juices too. Ask your health care professional if our fresh, unpasteurized drinks are right for their developing bodies and minds. Keep in mind that children should not be doing our cleanse programs.

Q: WHY DON’T YOU USE GLASS BOTTLES? HOW ARE YOU ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE?

At this time, we feel plastic is actually a more environmentally sound choice than glass. We use recyclable PET1 bottles, made from recycled plastic material for the following reasons:

  1. Plastic uses considerably less energy than glass to be recycled.
  2. PET1 doesn’t leach, and is generally the safest single-use plastic bottle choice.
  3. It is dramatically lighter than other bottle options, which means less fuel is used to create and deliver each bottle.
  4. Plastic is more space and energy efficient way to package our juice. A single plastic bottle uses fewer resources to create, fill, ship, and distribute than a single glass bottle. This is because glass bottles weigh up to nine times more than plastic bottles.
  5. All our packaging (cooler bags, cardboard boxes, containers) is the most environmentally sound and of course can be recycled too.

**A helpful reminder: Mother’s Juice is not meant to treat, prevent, diagnose or cure. Our juices are raw and have not been pasteurized and, therefore, may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems**
